This course explores the user-centered design paradigm via readings, case studies and hands-on design experience, providing you with theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills to understand the user-centered web development process and to manage a web project from start to finish. You will be exposed to the entire user-centered website design process, from planning and discovery to launch, promotion and maintenance. Prerequisite: Web III or equivalent experience.

This workshop shows you how rich media and animation created with Flash can effectively improve websites and web-based applications. Flash continues to be integrated into numerous websites in banners, graphics, ads and animations as well as complex navigation systems and media players. You will learn the Flash interface, files, tools and techniques including creating objects, animating them and using symbols and libraries to simplify construction. Other topics explored include ActionScript, application layouts, customization and techniques for integrating your Flash movie with other web applications and sites. Prerequisite: Web II or equivalent experience.

Starting a web design business or looking to become a member of a design and development team? This course offers a guide to both the potential and pitfalls inherent in running a web design business. Various aspects of project management are examined, from finding the right clients to negotiating the best price for your web design services. Additionally, technical aspects of the industry are discussed in detail. Perform the steps a project manager follows in planning, running, tracking and completing a web project. Learn to identify and create web development project tasks, identify and confirm user requirements including interviewing techniques and present solutions to common web project problems. Prerequisite: Web Design III or equivalent experience.

Learn how to use the WordPress Content Management System as the backbone and platform of all development projects. This is an advanced, intensive and comprehensive class geared to give developers the tools to develop solid websites using the open-source technology of WordPress. This course will help you understand WordPress so you can make it work for you and your clients without having to do all the heavy lifting of development yourself. Prerequisite: Web II or equivalent experience.

Learn the fundamentals of programming with the web browser scripting language. This course considers key programming concepts, from simple to advanced. In addition to an introduction to programming, this course provides an in-depth tour of the JavaScript programming language. Programming is a difficult subject to master, but the underlying concepts and techniques are easy to learn. The course will introduce basic programming terminology, concepts and best practices. No direct programming experience is required, however some previous familiarity with JavaScript may be useful. Knowledge of HTML and CSS is required. Prerequisite: Usability + Responsive Design or equivalent experience. This course is required for Digital Photography students preparing to enter the Capstone.

This course is designed to provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge you have learned in the Web Design Certificate program. At its core, this course focuses on project management skills, planning and the creation of a successful website that meets the needs and expectations of a real-world client. You must arrive at the first class session having identified a client for your project. This course concludes with a formal presentation to a panel of instructors and students. Prerequisite: This class is for Web Design Certificate enrollees only; successful completion of all prerequisite classes is mandatory.
