Designed for individuals with some exposure to the Adobe suite of design software, this course provides an overview of the fundamentals of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Topics include image resolution, scanning, importing and exporting images, print setup, photo adjustments and vector usage. Basic typography and design will also be addressed. You can expect to gain a better understanding of how the three programs work together to create products for print or the web.

InDesign allows the creation of multipage documents, and it works seamlessly with images from Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat. Learn how to integrate and use these tools more effectively. Print output is the student's responsibility.

Ideal for those eager to continue exploring Photoshop, working with advanced layer techniques, gaining an understanding of how to use curves for image enhancement and learning to sharpen images for output. Explore several advanced Photoshop techniques, including seamless compositing and advanced layering techniques, tool and palette customization and creative special effects for print, screen and the web. Print output is the student's responsibility; the University's Imaging Lab is available for output. Note: Please bring digital files and projects to work on during the first session. This course provides a more advanced study of the complex technical and practical techniques of photography in relation to camera formats, photographic techniques and advanced image manipulation. As students develop these higher-level camera skills and apply them to their work, consideration is given to such topics as advanced exposure, low-light situations, off-camera flash, camera raw capture and raw file editing techniques. Prerequisite: Digital Photography II, Digital Media for Photographers - Lightroom or equivalent experience.

Focus on expanding your design skills and refining your problem-solving abilities through advanced application of the design process. Work on a project, producing graphics and a website for a real-world client of your selection. Manage print design pieces from concept to completion, creating a logo, brochure and package design, and develop and build a website that complements and enhances your print media. You are expected to possess the necessary skills and knowledge required to successfully complete the Capstone Project, and you must arrive at the first class session having identified a client for your project. This course concludes with a formal presentation to a panel of instructors and students. Prerequisite: This class is for Communication Design + Web Certificate enrollees only; successful completion of all prerequisite classes is mandatory.
