This beginner's course in the beautiful italic hand will emphasize the correct making of all lower case letters (called miniscules in the calligraphic world) and numerals as determined by its principal tool: the broad-edge pen. The course will stress traditional techniques as well as developing good work habits. No artistic background or ability is required, only a sincere interest to learn and to practice.

Please note: This course will be taught by guest lecturer Ron Little. 


What will you learn in this course?

1. get familiar with the italic hand and its principal tools.

2. have the ability to make all the miniscules (lower case letters) and numbers in the italic hand.

3. have a solid foundation for pursuing further calligraphic study on your own.

Instructor Bio: Ron is a professional calligrapher and lettering artist whose work includes formal proclamations, bookplates for private collections and letterheads. His work also includes calligraphic lettering on furniture, walls (friezes) and shop signs.
