This beginner's course in the beautiful italic hand will emphasize the correct making of all lower case letters (called miniscules in the calligraphic world) and numerals as determined by its principal tool: the broad-edge pen. The course will stress traditional techniques as well as developing good work habits. No artistic background or ability is required, only a sincere interest to learn and to practice.
Course Overview
Each class will be divided between a lectures/design objectives and in-class work. Some weeks will
require students to complete out of classroom assignments.
 
What will you learn in this course?
• get familiar with the italic hand and its principal tools.
• have the ability to make all the miniscules (lower case letters) and numbers in the italic hand.
• have a solid foundation for pursuing further calligraphic study on your own.
 
Supplies/Equipment
The instructor will hand out course materials at the beginning of the first class. Their cost in included in the course fee.
