Tap dance is a uniquely American dance form evolved from African-American and Irish-American folk dances. This course focuses on teaching classical tap steps, rhythm and technique. Class consists of warm-up and building a vocabulary of steps and combinations. This course is appropriate for all levels of experience, including beginners. Tap shoes are required.

Course Overview

From the most advanced to the fresh beginner, this course will allow you to work on your technique! We will focus on incorporating dance as part of our overall rhythmic expression!

What will you learn in this course?

  • Develop your level of tap technique
  • Display confidence in your ability to dance
  • Explore working with props/musical instruments
  • By the end of the semester you will have worked on your individual technique, broadened your knowledge of tap technique and displayed confidence in your ability to dance
  • You will have the opportunity to perform and can experiment with technique, ideas and choreography.

Tap shoes are required, but if you don't have them there are several dance suppliers in town. Corinne recommends Baum's Dancewear in South Philly on Passyunk Avenue between Moore and Mifflin Streets.
