Designed for individuals with no or little exposure to Adobe design software. This course provides an overview of the fundamentals of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Topics include image resolution, scanning, importing and exporting images, print setup, photo adjustments and introduction to vectors. Basic typography and design will be addressed. You can expect to gain a better understanding of how these three programs work together to create products for print and web. After this course you will be prepared to explore these programs at a deeper level and have the basic skills to expedite your creative ideas.

Adobe Photoshop is the industry standard for editing raster graphics. This course kicks off with an introduction to its interface, tools and potential application to both web and print. Learn basic techniques for cropping and retouching images as well as for correcting exposure, color and lighting - skills applicable to everything from restoring old photos to manipulating the shot you snapped today. Students also explore more sophisticated features like text, layer and blur effects. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to edit and manipulate photos to create the perfect image or combine multiple images to create an entirely new scene. Through a series of applied design projects, this course stresses the importance of typography and design in visual communication. Study basic letterform anatomy, type history, typographic contrast, characteristics of major type families and how to design words, sentences and paragraphs to visually communicate an idea. Develop your ability to create typographic layouts using the dynamics of a grid system as a design tool and to build an effective hierarchy. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Design, Adobe InDesign or equivalent experience.
