Interested in making music on your computer, but not sure where to start? Gain a basic understanding of digital audio so you can finally start composing and creating! Students become familiar with the fundamentals of digital recording and audio manipulation over the course of five sessions. The first three classes are held in a lab setting, allowing hands-on experience converting audio to a digital format and manipulating it within a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Get acquainted with audio editing software including GarageBand, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, and Pro Tools, and learn to create MIDI-based compositions - compositions where instruments interface with your computer. The final two sessions are held in a recording studio, granting exposure to a mixing console and different types of microphones. Basic mixing techniques are covered in this course, including equalization, compression and panning audio within the stereo spectrum.
