This course will introduce students to digital darkroom processes using Adobe software like Photoshop and Lightroom. Furthering the skill set learned in Digital Photo II, students will master image preparation, manipulation and editing for the purposes of self-publishing a photo book. Other topics of concern will be assembling a digital portfolio in preparation for a future photography website. Students will working mostly with images made in previous assignments rather than making new work, as this class is concerned with outputting photographs and projects already made

Course Overview

Each class will be divided between a lectures and in-class work. Most weeks will require students to complete out of classroom assignments. Students will be responsible for getting work printed for assignments. Readings, Quizzes, Design Projects, Lectures, and Critiques, will all be part of the curriculum. Students in the certificate program can consider exhibiting their photo books created as part of this course for the final certificate exhibition.

Supplies + Equipment

USB drive with a minimum memory capacity of 2GB and External Hard Drive of 1 TB or greater formatted for Mac and PC. Sketchbook (suggested, for notes, planning projects and idea sketching)


Software: Course will be conducted using Adobe’s Photoshop and Lightroom programs Students will have access to the computer labs during the course of the term, but purchasing or subscribing to the software programs will be advantageous.


Literature: Required Readings will be supplied by the instructor
