If you have completed Digital Photography I or are comfortable with the use of a digital SLR camera (in manual mode), this course will allow you to expand your photographic competency and aesthetic sensibility while learning techniques to improve your work and build a greater understanding of advanced functions of the digital camera. The course stresses the development of a cohesive body of work, and the final goal is a series of project-based photographs. Prerequisite: Digital Photography I or equivalent experience.

Course Overview

This class will consist of lectures, demonstrations + reinforcing in-class + out-of-class assignments. Skills will be developed and demonstrated through the execution of assignments. Work will be critiqued both in class + online to enhance the implementation of art + design theory and the development of technical, creative and analytical skills.


What will you learn in this course?

Through this course, students will learn advanced digital photographic practices through class lectures, demonstrations, in and out of class assignments and critiques.

You will be using Adobe Lightroom CC in this class. If you do not have the program you can access to on campus computer labs during lab hours.


What topics will be covered?

  • Advance techniques on using a digital camera, including: improving proper exposure of a photograph understanding how to use F-stop + depth of field conceptually
  • shutterspeed control and using motion conceptuall
  • A contemporary understanding of digital photographic aesthetics and applications:
  • The art of contemporary photography
  • Themes and applications of photography in art
  • Portfolio development: you will work towards creating cohesive bodies of photographs.

Students in this class will critique + discuss artwork and techniques


Supplies/Equipment

Digital SLR Camera Additional materials: 2 memory cards, card reader or USB connection cable to download images, and storage device such as a large flash drive or hard drive
