Are you interested in learning how to bring an idea to life through video, and sharing it on the web? Perhaps you've been thinking about creating instructional videos, digital storytelling, or creating short videos for your blog-but don't know where to start? This course will focus on learning all the stages of story development, from pre-production to production and postproduction to create multimedia content for the web. You will learn about the creative and technical considerations to bring your stories to life through the basic concepts and skills of storyboarding, camera operation, composition + lighting, sound recording and editing techniques. You will be encouraged to create several short projects throughout the class.

Course Overview

This course teaches the skills necessary to bring an idea to life through moving image and sound. Focusing on the web as the distribution platform, review creative and technical considerations then working with video on the web. Learn all stages of story development, from pre-production to production and postproduction. This class also introduces the basic concepts and skills of storyboarding, camera operation, composition, lighting, sound recording and editing techniques. You are encouraged to create several short projects throughout the class. Topics include instructional videos, digital storytelling, creating short videos for blogs and creating multimedia content for mobile devices and interactive websites. You will critically evaluate media work in regards to formal techniques and structure. Additionally, the class will offer ways you can make your stories heard using existing online resources and distribution opportunities. A simple "web ready" camera is required. This can be a cell phone, Flip camera or basic HDV camcorder.
