This course is for individuals of all skill levels who aim to develop an understanding and sensitivity towards the process of drawing. With the formal investigation of line, value, shape, texture and space, students will study compositional methods to render, and learn to draw through mark-making. Classroom exercises will be grounded in direct observation, and we will spend time analyzing the structure of still life objects as well as the human form, while also approaching certain techniques of abstraction.

Course Overview

Together we will develop a drawing practice and create regular drawing rituals. Using a variety of drawing and painting mediums, students will explore the elements of a successful work at their own pace in a supportive atmosphere. References to historical and contemporary drawing and painting practices from many traditions are a part of each class session.
