An introduction to world of fine art bronze casting. Create your own bronze sculptures with two processes: sand casting and lost wax casting. You will learn the techniques to create two types of moulds, and in the foundry--techniques to ladle and hand pour molten bronze into sand impressions and with lost wax, ceramic shells. In the metal shop you will refine your castings and prepare them for patina and finishing. You will fabricate one to two complete bronze sculptures by utilizing various foundry and metal working techniques.

There are no prerequisites for this course; however, to ensure your success, it is recommended that students have an idea, image, sketch, model, or object that they would like to create in bronze.

What will you learn in this course?

• Be able to sculpt and model directly in wax

• Understand two different foundry casting methods and processes of lost-wax and sand casting and experience  the thrill of first hand bronze pouring
• Know how to TIG weld, grind, and chase silicon bronze

• Fully execute the sculpture with a hot patina finishing method
• Have at least one beautiful, finished bronze sculpture to take home, display in a gallery, or sell to a collector!
