Designed specifically for intermediate and advanced writers who have completed at least one draft of a screenplay, this course uses the workshop approach to help you troubleshoot, make significant headway on another draft and receive feedback from other writers. The class will be reading/workshopping intensive with possible mini-lectures from the instructor. The overall goal is to either complete a work in progress or start a new draft based on fresh input. The course may be repeated as desired.

Note: The meeting times of this course has changed since the publication of the Winter/Spring 2019 brochure.

Course Overview

This course requires that the screenwriter comes in with at least one complete draft of a screenplay that they want to take to the next level. If possible, the writer should have a treatment/outline to share with the class. While the focus of the work will lean towards plot, story structure and character development, there will be ample attention on form and technique: crafting strong dialogue as well as “minimal words/maximum effect” character and scene descriptions.  At the discretion of the instructor, revised beat sheets, outlines or character bios may be assigned.

What will you learn in this course?
