Explore the fundamentals of songwriting - and try your hand at it yourself - in this course designed for both aspiring and experienced songwriters. Learn, analyze, and apply the foundational and structural elements of songwriting through this collaborative, growth-oriented experience. The ground rules of songwriting are outlined, then applied toward your own composition - bringing out your inner songwriter! No previous music training is required.
Please note: the meeting dates have changed since the publication of the summer 2017 brochure.
 
We will explore the craft of songwriting through the listening, analysis, and writing of songs. Each day of class will include discussions of a few selected songs, based on their form/structure. These songs will vary greatly in mood, groove, and lyrical content.
 
Components of each featured song will include:
• Song Form
• Feel/Groove
• Melody
• Chord Progressions
• Lyrics: Content, Rhythm, and Rhyme Schemes
• Mood/Vibe
