Randy Kapralick




Randy received his Bachelor’s in Studio Music & Jazz Performance from the University of Miami School of Music. Immediately upon graduating, he was hired to play lead trombone for the legendary Motown group the Four Tops. Randy toured the United States for 5 years playing with the Four Tops, the Temptations, the Spinners, Aretha Franklin, Frankie Valli, KC & The Sunshine Band and Mary Wilson. Throughout his career, Randy has also had the chance to perform with Tito Puente, Wynton Marsalis, Jimmy Heath, Joe Henderson, Joe Lovano, Gerry Mulligan, Dave Liebman, Maria Schneider, and Bill Watrous. In Philadelphia, Randy can currently be seen playing with a variety of exciting ensembles including The Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia, The Larry McKenna Jazz Orchestra, and Norman David & The Eleventet. Randy is the Coordinator of Ensembles and Chair of the Trombone Department at University of the Arts where he also teaches Jazz Improvisation, Jazz Theory, and Musicianship. He directs two big bands at the University of the Arts: the Rick Kerber Tribute Ensemble and the prestigious Uarts High School All-Star Jazz Ensemble.
