Exploring Multicultural Literature
Ideal for secondary teachers, librarians and reading specialists, this course - taught by veteran educator Sandi Richards - is designed to enrich student awareness and appreciation of diverse cultures through literature centered on the experiences of African American, Hispanic, Asian and Middle Eastern cultures. Participants read Zora Neale Hurston, Chris Soentpiet, Faith Ringgold, Mildred D. Taylor and the poetry of Joyce Carol Thomas, Paul Laurence Dunbar and Langston Hughes, with a focus on their incorporation into cross-curricular studies.

Teaching Gifted and Advanced K-5 Readers
Ideal for PK-5 teachers, this course is designed to examine the unique needs of gifted and advanced readers and to develop a classroom environment that supports them. Educators will develop and build out instructionally-appropriate lessons and reading routines that support young readers in developing higher order and critical thinking skills when transacting with text.
