You may have seen the lead up to Monument Lab by Mural Arts. A conversation about public memorials is taking place across our city in the coming months presented by Mural Arts. On October 11, UArts is hosting a panel discussion with Mel Chin and Tyree Guyton, moderated by Ken Lum.

UArts Continuing Education faculty member Gina Kernan’s poster is featured in DesignPhiladelphia exhibition of posters by 26 designers. Hers features the letter N.Type is developed through a series of repeated forms, distinguishing one character from the next. TYPE TILES demonstrates each letter of the alphabet as subject, becoming object, variable in style and repeating in arrangement. AIGA Philadelphia, together built an abstracted alphabet of typographic patterns. This special exhibit, showcasing its diverse membership, will open with a DesignPhiladelphia Happy Hour on Monday, October 9th, from 5:30-7pm, and is open to the public through the end of November.
Swing drumming maestro Bruce Klauber, the Monday Blues/Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Jerry Zucker, and special guests Mary Ellen Desmond and The All-Star Jazz Trio will star in "A Big Band Salute to the Legends of Jazz Drumming," an extraordinary concert performance that will take place at Philadelphia's World Cafe' Live Upstairs on Sunday afternoon, October 15 at 3:00 p.m.
PIE faculty Christopher Darway's work will be on display at the Hunterdon Art Museum in Clinton, NJ from September 17 to November 12 in a solo exhibition titled "Sculpural Jewelry". Christopher employs the design and engineering of tiny and not so tiny objects while he transforms materials through methods of forming and shaping. "Sculptural Jewelry" includes some of Christopher's well-known pieces, including his Wooden Ball Necklace, alongside his new Mechanical Brooch, which was created for this show.
Christopher will be at the Museum for an opening reception and artist talk on September 17. Come see his amazing sculptural jewelry and learn about his craft.
